The Atlanta Hawks got a close glimpse at Colorado guard Derrick White on Wednesday. Less than 24 hours later, the team will be evaluating another top-flight backcourt prospect in the form of Oklahoma State point guard Jawun Evans.
Evans headlines the list of draft workouts engineered by Atlanta on Thursday with International big man Mathias Lessort serving as the other potential top-40 pick in the mix. In addition, Serbian guard Ognjen Jaramaz, Ohio State swingman Marc Loving, Notre Dame’s Steve Vasturia and North Carolina big man Kennedy Meeks will be on the scene for the Hawks.
In Evans, the Hawks could be evaluating the best non-lottery point guard in this class. One week ago, we broke down Evans’ game in full but he is a fast-rising prospect in some circles based on a relatively weak perimeter crop in the mid-to-late first round.
Evans was at the helm of one of the most productive college offenses in the country a season ago and he is a highly efficient player. The concern would be a lack of size, especially on the defensive end, but Atlanta’s backup point guard situation is something of an open question and he could fit the bill at either No. 19 or No. 31.
Stay tuned.
