The Atlanta Hawks are still without a general manager but the search could be nearing completion if one report comes to fruition.
On Wednesday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that Warriors assistant GM Travis Schlenk is now the “frontrunner” for the position.

Schlenk was included in a lengthy list of reported candidates earlier in the process and he is a respected name in NBA circles. He has 16 years of NBA front office experience, including the last 12 years with the Warriors and the success of that organization in the recent past goes without saying. Prior to this emergence, Schlenk was also tied to the Orlando Magic GM search, which recently ended in the hiring of both Jeff Weltman and John Hammond.
This would not be the “splash” hire in the way that David Griffin or even Chauncey Billups profile as, but the Hawks could be narrowing their search around an extremely qualified candidate. Stay tuned as more information becomes available but Atlanta might be adding a prominent voice from the 2017 NBA title favorites.
