Per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Atlanta Hawks reached out to the Portland Trail Blazers in an attempt to interview their current general manager, Neil Olshey, about the Hawks’ open GM position. Because Olshey is currently under contract with the Trail Blazers, the Hawks had to ask for permission to interview him, but Portland’s ownership was not willing to grant Atlanta the interview.
Hawks search is ongoing, but probing on Olshey shows a possible willingness to spend significant money for elite executives. https://t.co/AmjckNXpr8

Further tweets from Wojnarowski indicate that Tony Ressler and the other decision makers in the Hawks organization are willing to pay to go after a big name, as current Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin has also popped up in rumors for the vacant position.
Olshey started his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers, working his way up to general manager before signing with the Trail Blazers in 2012, where he has built a contender around Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, both of whom he drafted in his first two years in charge in Portland.
The Hawks’ search for a general manager seems far from over and they’re reaching all around the league to try to find the best fit for the franchise moving forward. Stay tuned.
