Ten Things About the NBA: Coaches on the Hot Seat, Silly Season Updates and More

Phil has ten things for you to ponder and discuss this week!

Isaiah Thomas Steals the Show

Thank goodness the silly season has ended. If trade deadline Twitter could be summed up in 140 characters or less Isaiah Thomas did Twitter proud!

Boogie Traded for the next Steph Curry

Rarely will you see rookie shooting guard Buddy Hield and Two Time reigning MVP Stephen Curry mentioned in the same sentence and at least before Monday they had never been compared with each other. Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive seems to believe Hield is going to be the next Stephen Curry!

Here they are stat line to stat line from each of their first seasons in the NBA.

Good luck with that Mr. Ranadive.

I wasn’t surprised by the Kings trading Cousins. I wasn’t even surprised the Kings received very little for him other than the aforementioned Hield. Nope. None of this surprised me at all.

The thing that did surprise me was the timing of the trade; the Kings were just two games out of the eighth seed and it has been a LONG time the Kings had been in this position at this juncture of the season. Don’t they want to win?

The All-Star Game is Unwatchable?

So the All-Star Game happened last week. I didn’t watch it. I couldn’t tell you who won or even what the score was. I did see that Anthony Davis was MVP. Good for him.

There was a time when I wouldn’t have missed it but those days are long past for me. The League and its players are far too buddy buddy for it to ever return to a game that I would even want to watch.

In lieu of any type of defense it’s turned into something only the participation medal crowd seems to enjoy. Or little kids who don’t know any better.

Nowadays players make too much money for them to take many risks playing all out. For them the All-Star Game is a chance to hang out with their buddies and build super teams.

It’s easy for some weekend reporter with 70 Twitter followers to deem the game "unwatchable"; reminiscing about the good old days with grainy Youtube videos is easy to do. Remember what happened to Paul George? They sure do.

You wouldn’t risk it either.

This Made Me Smile

Love watching Giannis Antetokounmpo do this over Buddy Hield Sr. Really loved DeAndre Jordan’s reaction to this….

Urkel Loses His Dancing Partner

This past summer Urkel lost his choke partner when Kevin Durant decided to take his unreliable act to Golden State. Now Urkel loses his dancing partner?

The pre-game party might have taken a hit but I do think the Thunder got better receiving Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson in exchange for Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne and Anthony Morrow.

Maybe Cameron Payne can make Jimmy Butler forget all about another season of missing the playoffs.

Nerlens Noel to the Mavericks

The original member of "The Process", Nerlens Noel, is now a member of the Dallas Mavericks. The 76ers wound up with Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a protected Draft Pick.

Tom Ziller sums this one up very nicely.

What Grade Would You Give the Atlanta Hawks?

Kris Willis and I graded EVERYONE that played significant minutes for the Atlanta Hawks prior to the All Star Break……have a listen and give us your grade in the comments section.

Louis Williams to the Houston Rockets Means What Exactly?

Magic Johnson didn’t waste any time on Tuesday trading Louis Williams to the Houston Rockets for Corey Brewer and a 2017 First Round Unprotected pick.

Some would lead us to believe this move is going to help Houston make some noise in April; Williams might make some noise in the first week of April as the regular season concludes but we need to remember Williams has shot just 23 percent from beyond the arc in 41 playoff games.

Williams also has an impressive defensive box plus minus of -3.1 this season; he will surely fit in with a Rockets defense ranking 14th in the NBA in defensive efficiency.

The First Round pick makes the Lakers a clear winner in this one.

NBA Coaches on the Hot Seat?

What do Fred Hoiberg, Stan Van Gundy, Terry Stotts and Steve Clifford all have in common? Tune in to my show with my pal Amar from SLC Dunk to find out this and much more NBA chatter!

Say What LeBron?

You won’t see too many stars do this during the regular season…..good on you LeBron!
