Hawks vs. Clippers preview: Atlanta seeks strong finish before All-Star break

Get your coffee ready. There is another late night ahead.

NBA: Los Angeles Clippers at Atlanta Hawks Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks escaped Portland with a close-fought victory on Monday night, avoiding any possibility of a winless road trip. With that as the backdrop, the Hawks will travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday evening for the final game prior to the All-Star break and the team can end on a positive note with a victory.

On Jan. 23, the Clippers entered Philips Arena without both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and emerged victorious. This time around, Griffin is back in the lineup and, while Paul remains absent, that makes things much more difficult for the Hawks on both ends of the floor.

To that end, the Clippers are seen as slight favorites according to the good folks in Las Vegas. The match-up between Griffin and Paul Millsap will garner the headlines, but Atlanta must clamp down defensively to present the best possible front toward a victory and that need includes the full roster. Beyond that, the winner of the battle between DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard at the center position could prove pivotal.

Thabo Sefolosha is listed as questionable in advance of the game, with the rest of the roster (sans Tiago Splitter) available and ready to go. It should be a fun night in the glamour city of Los Angeles and, if the Hawks play well, they can enter a lengthy break with the optimism provided by a victory.

Stay tuned.
