NBA Trade Rumors: Atlanta Hawks holding firm on Paul Millsap

The Atlanta Hawks still aren’t willing to trade Paul Millsap.

Despite some skepticism around the league, the Atlanta Hawks remain adamant that they will not entertain a trade for free agent to be Paul Millsap in advance of the trade deadline according to a report by ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.

Skepticism about Atlanta's recent insistence that Paul Millsap is completely off the market has been fairly rampant. The Hawks, however, are adamant Millsap is staying put in the wake of the Kyle Korver-to-Cleveland deal in early January ... whether rival teams believe them or not. Atlanta began sounding out teams about potential Millsap interest at the same time Korver was made available in early January, then abruptly changed course and told Millsap he should plan on playing out the season with the team he's about to rep in his third successive All-Star Game, even if that means Atlanta risks losing the 32-year-old for nothing when Millsap hits free agency in July.

At one point it appeared the Hawks were ready to hit the reset button on the season, but now it looks like they are going to ride it out with this group.

Atlanta is 31-23 on the season and just one game back of the Toronto Raptors for fourth place in the Eastern Conference despite going 5-5 over their last 10 games. The Hawks are eight games over .500 despite posting a negative point differential on the season. Atlanta is also ranked 29th in ESPN.com’s strength of schedule rankings and will see the schedule ramp up considerably in March.

Millsap has turned in another banner season for the Hawks but will be eligible for a mega contract next summer at age 32. Atlanta saw Al Horford walk away for nothing in return last summer and will be looking to avoid that same identical situation with Millsap this offseason.
