It’s been a long week without the Atlanta Hawks in action but, on Friday evening, that lengthy break comes to an end. The team will be on the floor at Little Caesars Arena to take on the Detroit Pistons and, while that match-up did not look treacherous before the season, it certainly does now.
Andre Drummond and company enter the game on a three-game winning streak and the Pistons have emerged victorious in six of the past seven games. While it remains up for debate as to whether this level of play is sustainable for Detroit, the Hawks will need to build on what was an encouraging back-to-back against the Cavs and Celtics with more stellar play.
From a match-up perspective, it appears that the Hawks will remain short-handed in the frontcourt. Ersan Ilyasova is unlikely to appear on Friday and, even if Mike Muscala returns, Atlanta’s roster will be taxed against Drummond and company up front in Detroit.
Still, there is some level of optimism when it comes to what Atlanta can do on the perimeter and the match-up between Dennis Schröder and Reggie Jackson could be a pivotal one. Detroit enters as a solid favorite (at least in Las Vegas) on their home floor but the Hawks have flashed strong signs and perhaps three days of full rest will aid in that continuing.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
