DeAndre’ Bembry cleared to return, will play Friday in Detroit

Bembry will make his preseason debut, three weeks after injuring his tricep

DeAndre’ Bembry will be back on the court for the Atlanta Hawks sooner rather than later, according to ESPN’s Marc Spears:

Bembry injured his tricep in preseason workouts just three weeks ago, an injury that was supposed to keep him out for 4-6 weeks. Speculation around the time of the injury was that he would be out until the home opener on October 27, but he’s apparently accelerated his recovery timetable over the past few weeks to get back with three preseason games remaining.

Bembry took part in pregame layup lines before Atlanta’s second preseason game on Wednesday night in Cleveland, fueling rumors that he might even make his return against the Cavaliers. Spears’ report confirms suspicions that Bembry was recovering faster than normal.

Bembry had an up-and-down rookie season in which he played 38 games for the Hawks, averaging 2.7 points per game on 48 percent shooting from the field.
