Collins had been playing well in his second preseason contest, putting up four points, three rebounds, and two blocks in 14 minutes before being forced out of the game. He immediately went to the locker room for further evaluation but returned to the Hawks’ bench in full uniform shortly thereafter.
However, the Hawks elected to hold him out for the remainder of the game. At this point, it’s not known whether Collins’ injury is more serious or just the team being cautious about their first-round draft pick by not pushing him back into a meaningless preseason game.
The Hawks take the floor again on Friday against the Detroit Pistons before wrapping up the preseason with two games in Atlanta next week.
