The Atlanta Hawks already made one trade this week and are reportedly listening to offers for several more players on their roster. The biggest trade chip they have left to play is for All-Star forward Paul Millsap and the Hawks are looking for a significant return in any deal.
ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reports that Atlanta is looking for a quality first-round pick to headline a trade for Millsap.
The Hawks, sources say, want at least one quality first to headline a Millsap deal.
Stein mentions that teams like Denver, Toronto and Sacramento as teams that have shown interest and that there will likely be more to join the chase.
While acquiring Millsap would give a significant boost to the team that acquires him, teams must weigh giving up a significant package to land him alongside their ability to re-sign him next summer when he hits free agency.
Millsap figures to be one of the most sought after names on the market next summer and teams may be reluctant to offer a serious return for what may turn out to be a just a rental. Millsap’s next contract is going to be expensive and that along with his age are the biggest reasons that Atlanta is listening to offers now.
