As trade rumors continue to swirl, the Atlanta Hawks must push on as they continue a four-game road trip tonight in Dallas against the Mavericks. The Hawks enter tonight’s game with a five-game winning streak but there is a much bigger story developing off the court.
Atlanta agreed in principle to a trade that will send Kyle Korver to Cleveland for a 2019 first-round pick and some spare parts on Thursday. That move appears to be just the first domino to fall as rumors continue to swirl around veterans like Paul Millsap, Thabo Sefolosha and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Korver was on the court warming up with the team in New Orleans Thursday when news of the trade broke. He was held out of the game but did remain on the bench. The trade was made official on Saturday.
Despite the distraction, the Hawks got a big second half effort from Millsap and point guard Dennis Schröder in a 99-94 win over the Pelicans. Atlanta will once again look to block out all of the noise and keep their winning streak alive against a struggling Mavericks team.
Dallas has gone 5-5 over their last 10 games but currently sit at 11-25 for the season which ties them for dead last in the Western Conference. The Mavericks suffered a 102-95 loss at home to the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. Dirk Nowitzki has been slowed by lingering injury problems and is continuing to work his way back. The Mavericks are 7-10 at home so far this season.
