Dream vs Sky preview: Atlanta looks for season sweep in Chicago

The Atlanta Dream return from the Olympic break for a matchup against the Chicago Sky.

Angel McCoughtry

The Atlanta Dream return to action Friday night when they travel to Chicago to take on Elena Delle Donne and the Sky in a key Eastern Conference matchup.

Atlanta prevailed in the first two meetings between the two clubs this season with both being played at Philips Arena. The Dream pulled out an 87-81 win in late May behind 21 points from Angel McCoughtry. Atlanta rallied for a 101-97 overtime win on June 17. McCoughtry led the way in that game as well with 22 points but the Dream also got strong performances from Elizabeth Williams and Layshia Clarendon. Delle Donne led Chicago with 26 points in the loss.

Atlanta is currently in fourth place in the WNBA Standings with a 13-12 record. They have a half game lead over Indiana and are 1.5 games better than the Sky who are sixth.

The Dream were hopeful that Sancho Lyttle would be able to return in time for Friday’s game but her status remains uncertain. Lyttle suffered a foot injury in a game against the Fever on July 15. The injury was originally diagnosed as a broken fifth metatarsal in her right foot and she was expected to miss the remainder of the season. A second examination revealed the injury to be just a bruise which would require four to five weeks of recovery time.

Lyttle worked out on the side during Wednesday’s practice and is officially listed as “questionable” for Friday’s game.
