The Al Horford era is over for the Atlanta Hawks.
Celtic Pride!!!!!!
— Al Horford (@Al_Horford) July 2, 2016
Horford, who was coveted by a number of teams since free agency began on Friday, will spend the 2016-2017 season and beyond with the Boston Celtics. This move does not come as a shock given the relative turmoil in Atlanta in recent days, as the organization invested heavily in Dwight Howard and Kent Bazemore, leaving some uncertainty when it came to Horford’s role moving forward.
Still, the 30-year-old big man has spent his entire NBA career in Atlanta, and the Hawks reportedly offered a five-year contract for Horford to remain with the team. It remains to be seen what Mike Budenholzer and Wes Wilcox will do in the coming hours and days in order to proceed with life after Horford, but with rumors of a Paul Millsap trade dangling in the wind, there could be some damage control to be done.
Al Horford is no longer a member of the Atlanta Hawks. There will be much more to come as the story develops.
Stay tuned.
