The Atlanta Dream look to get back on track Friday night when they travel to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to take on the Indiana Fever. The Dream saw a three-game winning streak come to am emphatic end on Wednesday with a 86-62 loss to the New York Liberty. Atlanta will try to move on from that loss and build some momentum before the league takes a month break for the Olympics.
Atlanta and Indiana have split two previous meetings this season with the home team coming out on top each time. Friday’s game is the rubber match in the series and the winner will hold the tiebreaker advantage in the final standings. Atlanta is currently second in the Eastern Conference with an 11-10 record. Indiana is tied for third at 9-12.
It is an important game for the Dream as well as they are trying to hold down a Top 4 spot in the playoff chase and earn a bye in the first round of the WNBA’s new playoff format. Teams this season will be seeded 1-8 regardless of conference standing.
Atlanta dropped the first meeting against the Fever 94-85 despite a late comeback attempt led by Layshia Clarendon and Rashonda Gray. The Dream got their revenge a couple of weeks later when they defeated Indiana 85-76 behind 22 points from Angel McCoughtry.
McCoughtry was banged up in Wednesday’s loss and finished with just three points in just over 10 minutes. She is not listed on the team’s injury report for Friday’s game but her status is something that is worth keeping an eye on.
Indiana dropped an 86-64 decision to the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday and have gone 5-5 over their last 10 games.
