The Atlanta Hawks invested in two seasoned college players in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft, but at number 44 overall, the team went in a different direction. The team took to the international ranks, selecting French wing Isaia Cordinier with the potential of a "draft and stash" approach.
Cordinier is a 19-year-old who stands at 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan, and he is known for his athleticism. At this early juncture, there are questions about his shooting stroke, though some additional time overseas could allow the very young shooting guard to develop in this regard.
With two first round picks locked into guaranteed contracts for the 2016-2017 NBA season and beyond, it is no surprise that the Hawks would look to the future. There is at least a faint chance (until proven otherwise) that Cordinier could attempt to come stateside immediately, but Atlanta has a track record when it comes to this type of pick and the organization can afford to be patient. Stay tuned.
