The Atlanta Hawks look to close things out on Thursday in Boston when they face the Celtics in Game 6 of their best of seven series. After two straight road defeats in Games 3 & 4, the Hawks flipped the script in Game 5 with a 110-83 blowout win. Now they will look to exorcise some demons from the past as they try to eliminate the Celtics in a playoff series for the first time in nine tries.
After struggling initially in Game 5, Atlanta found a rhythm midway through the second quarter and never let up. The Hawks outscored Boston 74-42 over the second and third quarters of Game 5. Isaiah Thomas torched Atlanta in Games 3 & 4 but went scoreless in the first half and finished with seven meaningless points as the Hawks trapped him repeatedly to get the ball out of his hands.
Thomas tweaked an ankle late in Game 5 but all indications are that he will suit up and play in Game 6.
Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer applauded his team's approach in Game 5 despite the slow start. He indicated after the game that they needed to carry the same type of mindset on the road in Game 6. The home team has won each game of the series so far but Atlanta had an opportunity in Game 4 before squandering a 16 point lead down the stretch and ultimately losing in overtime.
