In what might have been the most controversial play in what was an interesting Game 3 between the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics Friday night in the TD Garden, Isaiah Thomas struck Dennis Schröder in the head. The NBA has now assessed Thomas with a flagrant 1 for his actions.
Schröder drove through the lane, past Jonas Jerebko, laying the ball in. As Schröder began to run to get back on defense, Isaiah Thomas tried to sneakily hit Schröder in the head, and after replay, we were able to see it was with a closed fist, and the impact was pretty strong.
Thomas poured in an impressive 42 points for the Celtics in the Game 3 win over the Hawks.
There is certainly a relief factor here for Celtics fans, as it seemed that Thomas might receive a suspension for the hit. Game 4 on Sunday should be an interesting one, whether things get chippy or not.
