Hawks vs. Wizards preview: Eastern Conference playoff seeding up for grabs for Atlanta

The two foes will be battling for the third seed in the Eastern Conference Wednesday night.

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

It all comes down to this, folks. The Atlanta Hawks will be facing the Washington Wizards in the final game of the season. A win would put the Hawks in a good position to grab the third seed in the East, but they would need help from the Boston Celtics. Right now, the Atlanta Hawks could clinch with a win and a Heat loss. If the Heat win, they will solidify their spot for the third seed.

The Hawks come into this one having just lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. Kent Bazemore had 21 first half points, but finished with 23. Jeff Teague had yet another good game with 21 points and nine assists, but it wasn't enough to overcome LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, who combined for a total of 69 points. Despite the loss, the Hawks have played well of late, and should be expected to bring their A-game against a Wizards team that is eliminated from playoff contention.

A win would put the Wizards at .500 on the season, but a loss would help their draft standing. That's not to say that the Wizards would intentionally lose Wednesday night's game, but it also wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for them to be a spot ahead of the Bulls. The Wizards are coming off of a win against the Nets where they did not have John Wall and Bradley Beal, and it is possible we won't see them Wednesday night considering the circumstances.

For the Hawks, they surely hope that is the case, as they try to secure the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
