Hawks vs Clippers preview: Atlanta set to complete rare back-to-back in LA

Back to back nights in Los Angeles? Get the coffee ready.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks took care of the one opponent on this road trip that they were supposed to take care of on Friday night. Now, the task becomes far tougher, as the team plays a second straight game in the Staples Center by taking on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Even without Blake Griffin in the lineup, the Clippers have proven to be a force in the West, and that begins with the duo of Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan. Jordan can give Atlanta fits on the offensive glass, but the bigger concern might be Paul, who presents a difficult match-up for any opposing point guard, including both Jeff Teague and Dennis Schröder.

With the win on Friday, the Hawks remain in solid position with regard to the Eastern Conference playoff picture, but things can get murky in a hurry if things go awry the rest of the way on this trip. Playing back-to-backs on the road is never fun, but it helps to be in the same city (i.e. no travel) and the Clippers aren't exactly operating at full strength. Still, it will take a strong effort to get a win, and that is the mandate here. Stay tuned.
