The Atlanta Hawks extended their winning streak to three straight games Saturday night with a 112-95 win over the Detroit Pistons.
The Hawks set the tone early jumping out to a 27-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Atlanta put forth a suffocating defensive effort holding Detroit to just 5 for 19 shooting in the opening frame. The Hawks pushed the lead to as many as 16 in the second quarter before settling in with a 56-42 lead at the intermission.
The Pistons would make a run in the third cutting the Atlanta lead to just seven points. The recovered to end the period and led 83-74 heading to the fourth. Atlanta poured it on in the fourth and pushed the lead to 103-83 with just over four minutes remaining before coasting home for the win.
Paul Millsap stuffed the stat sheet before leaving the game in the fourth after banging heads with Detroit's Aron Baynes. Millsap finished with a game-high 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocked shots. He knocked down 8 of 14 from the field and was 3 of 4 from three-point range.
Kent Bazemore snapped out of a shooting slump and finished with 17 points while Al Horford added 13. Jeff Teague and Dennis Schröder accounted for 19 of the Hawks' 34 assists. Tobias Harris led Detroit with 21 points while Andre Drummond added 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Atlanta improves to a season-best 14 games over .500 at 44-30. They return to action on Monday when they face the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.
