Wizards vs Hawks preview: Atlanta looks to extend streak against Washington

The Atlanta Hawks look to keep the pressure on the rest of the Eastern Conference Monday night when they face the suddenly surging Washington Wizards

The Atlanta Hawks look to keep it going Monday night when they open a home-and-home set against the Washington Wizards. The matchup will feature two of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta has won five straight while the Wizards are riding a four-game streak.

The Hawks are playing their best basketball of the season and appear to be peaking at the right time. Atlanta is still in the midst of a tightly contested race in the East but has climbed to third in the standings and a half game in front of the Miami Heat.

The Hawks came from behind to defeat the Rockets 109-97 on Saturday behind 22 points from Al Horford and 20 from Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Wizards are still on the outside looking in at the East's playoff picture but are once again knocking on the door. Washington trails both Detroit and Chicago by 1.5 games for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Wizards came from behind on Saturday to defeat the Knicks 99-89 behind 24 points and 10 assists from John Wall.

Monday's game is the first of three between the Hawks and Wizards between now and the end of the season. Atlanta travels to Washington on Wednesday and then returns on April 13 to wrap up the season. The Hawks defeated the Wizards 114-99 back in November at Philips Arena.
