Tiago Splitter will have hip surgery on February 25 and will be out of action for approximately eight months. In addition to missing the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs, Splitter will also miss the Olympics which will be held in Brazil this summer.

Splitter told reporters today that he had experienced various levels of pain with his hip both on and off the court since late November.
Splitter said the hip started to be an issue in late November, and that he was in miserable pain even away from the court.

An eight-month recovery would be in line for a return to action in late October or early November. Splitter is under contract with the Hawks through the 2017 season.
