The Atlanta Hawks limp into the final stop of their five-game road trip looking to snap a three-game slide when they face the Phoenix Suns. Atlanta began the trip with a win in Indiana but things have not gone well since they headed west.
They suffered their worst loss of the season in Utah which prompted a player’s only meeting and followed that up with a double-digit loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles. They put forth an encouraging effort in a 105-100 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, but the end result was yet another loss. Since starting the season 9-2 Atlanta has gone 1-6 and have slid all the way to sixth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Much of Atlanta’s problems can be traced to an inconsistent offense. They have an offensive rating of 92.6 over the past seven games. They still lead the league in defensive efficiency at 97.5 but have allowed 101.7 per 100 possessions over that stretch.
Phoenix comes into the game with a two-game losing streak of their own and a 5-13 record for the season. The Suns fell to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday despite a career-best 35 points from Eric Bledsoe.
The game will also feature an intriguing matchup in the pivot between Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler. Howard finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds against the Warriors and is averaging 14.4 points and 12.8 boards on the season. Chandler had 10 points and 15 boards against the Nuggets and is fifth in the league in rebounding averaging 12 per game.
