10 Things About the NBA: The Week Four Edition

Phil finds 10 things about the NBA that happened during week four....and he wants you to know about them

Another week of great NBA action is just about in the books. There has been plenty to see and talk about so it wasn’t easy narrowing this down to just ten things……but I will try.

1). Your Atlanta Hawks have won six straight ballgames. While it’s easy to get excited (and I am) if the season were to end today only two of those wins would have come against playoff teams. Here’s Taurean Prince throwing one down against Milwaukee.

2). Portland Trail Blazers Point Guard Damian Lillard says “we kind of suck right now” and he would be right. The Trail Blazers are allowing 111.3 points a game which is second to last in the NBA. They’ve allowed 111 points in every game since Al-Farouq Aminu went down to injury during the Trail Blazers game against the Phoenix Suns on November 8th.

Aminu will be out for at least another ten days but the schedule has been kind to them; the Trail Blazers have road games against the Pelicans, Nets, Knicks and Cavs before finding their way home on the 25th of November.

3). This week we were able to witness the battle of the “one man shows”; James Harden and his Houston Rockets were in Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder. I’m sure Rockets center Clint Capella will have fond memories of this matchup;

4). Dwight Howard is saying and doing all the right things since his arrival in Atlanta. The Hawks bench is also the best bench in the NBA and the Peachtree Hoops Podcast is the #1 Atlanta Hawks podcast. Listen in to find out why;

5). Phoenix Suns Guard Devin Booker got kicked out of his game against the Denver Nuggets and he didn’t seem one bit upset about it; in fact he even did this;

6). Phil Jackson got himself in a bit of hot water this past week when he referred to LeBron James high school friends as a “posse”. The Urban Dictionary defines “posse” as “your crew, your hommies, a group of friends, people who may or may not have your back”……..and that’s exactly what Maverick Carter and Rich Paul are. Longtime friends and their business just happens to be whatever makes LeBron James money.

7). When Sacramento Kings Head Coach Dave Joerger was coaching the Memphis Grizzlies he wanted the Grizzlies to play at a faster pace. Now that Joerger is gone the Grizzlies are playing at a faster pace than Joerger’s current team is. Kings Guard Ty Lawson claimed that no one takes the shoot-arounds seriously. Me thinks Joerger’s tenure as coach of the Kings will be a short and rocky one.

8). I really enjoy looking at preseason predictions. This one had the Hawks outside the top 8. Maybe “Tommy Beer” needs to sober up.

9). This Drake is a funny guy. The Toronto Raptors mascot smack talked Golden State Warriors SF Kevin Durant all game long and then pulled one of these numbers during Durant’s post-game interview.

10). Some happen to believe the Los Angeles Clippers are the best team in the NBA. Memphis Flyer reporter Kevin Lipe and I have a different opinion of the Clippers. Tune in to find out.
