The NBA declared today that it will coordinate and produce its own award show for the first time. Instead of announcing individual awards at separate times during the playoffs, all awards will be given during the show on June 26th, 2017.

The NBA announced today that the first-ever NBA Awards Show will take place in New York City on Monday, June 26, 2017. Televised exclusively by TNT, the show will feature current and former NBA players, coaches and celebrities.

The star-studded event will recognize NBA players, teams, coaches and executives for their accomplishments and performances from the 2016-17 NBA season. The show will feature the announcements of the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kia NBA Sixth Man Award, Kia NBA Most Improved Player and Coach of the Year.

A night completely dedicated to the NBA and to its players and coaches seems like a great idea. The NBA continues to create innovative methods of staying relevant during the offseason and maintain its presence in the 12 month media cycle.
