Paul Millsap, Jarrett Jack to miss preseason opener with injury, per report

The Hawks will be shorthanded on Thursday night.

To the surprise of no one, the Atlanta Hawks reportedly won’t be at full strength for the 2016-2017 preseason opener.

Chris Vivlamore of the AJC brings word that Paul Millsap, who underwent a knee procedure prior to training camp, and Jarrett Jack, who is recovering from knee surgery in January, will be absent when the Hawks take on the Memphis Grizzlies. This news is in line with expectations concerning both players, though it should be noted that Millsap and Jack have been engaging in various levels of activity during the lead-up to the first on-court action.

In addition, it appears that Dennis Schröder’s ankle issue is behind him, and that is encouraging for both Thursday and beyond. In the grand scheme, Millsap being absent from a preseason game isn’t earth-shattering, but it is certainly worth monitoring his progress and, for Jack, his return date could potentially impact the race with Malcolm Delaney for pole position as the team’s backup point guard.

Stay tuned.
