With the (somewhat) surprising announcement that Jarrett Jack was no longer a part of the Atlanta Hawks roster on Thursday night, the team took the first step toward selecting their final, 15-man roster. Now, we have more confirmation, as Chris Vivlamore of the AJC reports that the Hawks have placed point guard Will Bynum on waivers.
Though technically Josh Magette remains on the roster, it certainly appears as if Edy Tavares, Mike Muscala, Mike Scott and anyone else on the edge of the roster can rest assured about their immediate future. With Jack and Bynum off the roster, Atlanta now has 16 players under contract and, with apologies to Mr. Magette, it would be the shocker of all shockers if he was selected for the Opening Night roster.
There are many layers to wade through with the roster selection, including the fact that the Hawks will likely carry only two true point guards. For now, though, it looks like we know who will be on the team on Thursday night at Philips Arena and that means real basketball is coming. Stay tuned.
