Update: The Hawks have confirmed that Ryan Kelly was placed on waivers.
——
With only one game remaining in the 2016 preseason, the Atlanta Hawks have some moves to make and another one reportedly came down after Tuesday’s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution brings word that forward Ryan Kelly has been let go by the team.
The Hawks have released Ryan Kelly. They will announce the move tomorrow. Roster will be down to 18.

Prior to Kelly’s release, Atlanta parted ways with Matt Costello to slice the roster to 19 players, but Kelly is the latest casualty as the Hawks look to reach the 15-player threshold. The former Duke standout was relatively effective across six preseason appearances for the Hawks, but Kelly was always up against a numbers game given the presence of players like Mike Muscala, Edy Tavares and Kris Humphries and, in the end, this was not a surprising move.
The Hawks must make three additional moves prior to the season opener on Oct. 27, but for now, Josh Magette, Will Bynum and others can breathe easily.
