Germany missed out on an opportunity to jump to the top of the Group B standings on Sunday when their upset bid against Serbia fell short thanks to a late basket by Nemanja Bjelica. That win would have given Germany a huge boost, but instead leaves them with more work to be done to secure a spot in the second round of the tournament.
Germany is off on Monday before playing three straight days with a pivotal game against Turkey on tap for Tuesday. They will close group play with matchups against Italy and Spain. FIBA Americas Championship
Second round play at the FIBA Americas Championship got under way on Sunday with the Dominican Republic falling to Venezuela 72-68. After falling behind early, Kenny Atkinson's club made a furious rally but weren't able to dig themselves all the way out of that early hole. Former Louisville standout Edgar Sosa led the way with 21 points while James Feldeine added 13.
