Elton Brand reportedly set to retire after 16 seasons

Former Atlanta Hawks big man Elton Brand is reportedly set to retire from the NBA.

When Elton Brand agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks prior to the 2014-2015 season, many assumed that it would be his last season in the NBA. It appears those people were correct, as Brand reportedly announced that decision in the midst of his annual Youth Day at Peekskill High School in New York (h/t: The Examiner News).

"I could get in shape if I got the call but this looks like the end of the run for me, right now it is family time."

The 36-year-old Brand spent the last two seasons with the Hawks, but after a highly productive season in 2013-2014, his role was drastically reduced during Atlanta's 60-win campaign last season. During his time in Atlanta, Brand averaged 4.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 17.4 minutes (109 appearances), but in his NBA career, the former All-Star posted career averages of 16.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Brand played an integral leadership role over the past two seasons, and we wish him the best in his next endeavor.
