The Atlanta Hawks have officially signed 2014 second round pick Walter Tavares. Terms of the deal were not released, but it is rumored to be a multi-year deal. Tavares tweeted a picture of him signing the contract earlier from his official Twitter account.
Tavares spent this season with Gran Canaria of the Spanish ACB league where he averaged 8.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 57 total games this season. While his game is still developing, at 7-3, 260 pounds, he will add a lot of size to Atlanta's front court.
"We followed Edy closely the past two seasons with Gran Canaria and are excited to officially have Edy as a member of our team. We would like to thank the coaches and executives of Gran Canaria as they played a significant role in Edy's development and we look forward to continuing his improvement in our player development program," Budenholzer said.
Tavares is part of the Hawks' summer league team which will begin play in Las Vegas on Friday.
