With free agency begin to wrap up as the NBA's moratorium comes to a close, the Atlanta Hawks freed up cap space by waiving veteran forward Austin Daye on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Daye averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 8 appearances with the Hawks during the 2014-2015 season, and he was signed after being waived by the San Antonio Spurs. The release comes two days after his 52 point performance in a Pro-Am tournament in Los Angeles.
First reported by Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Hawks also renounced rights to DeMarre Carroll, Pero Antic, Elton Brand, John Jenkins, and Gustavo Ayon. It remains to be seen what kind of cap mechanics will be necessary for the Hawks in order to fit the new contracts of Paul Millsap and Justin Holiday along with the trade for Tiago Splitter (which was formally announced on Wednesday), but stay tuned for the latest as details emerge.
