Each year SB Nation NBA writers take part in a network wide mock draft in the days leading up until the big event. For this year's installment, Peachtree Hoops selected Arkansas forward Bobby Portis for the Atlanta Hawks with the 15th pick of the first round.
We were again presented with several solid options to choose from. We had our eyes on Wisconsin big man Frank Kaminsky as well as Kansas wing Kelly Oubre. With both off the board we opted to go with Portis who would give the team another intriguing front court prospect.
He is a solid offensive player with good size and a good face up game. His midrange jump shot is solid and looks like a good fit for Atlanta's spread the floor system. He isn't a bad one-on-one defender despite not being much of a rim protector. What really jumped off the page though is his competitiveness which is something we hear Hawks coaches refer too all of the time.
Once we factored in the free agency status of frontcourt players Paul Millsap, Pero Antic along with Elton Brand we decided that Portis was too good to pass up at this juncture of the draft.
