The Atlanta Hawks unveiled a statue to honor legend Dominique Wilkins in a private event Thursday at Philips Arena.
Wilkins was surrounded by friends and family, ex-teammates, coaches as well as city officials. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed presented Wilkins with the City of Atlanta Phoenix Award and announced that a stretch of Centennial Olympic Park Drive would be renamed as "Dominique Wilkins Lane."
Speakers such as TV voice Bob Rathbun, radio voice Steve Holman and many others took turns telling stories about Wilkins' career and his many philanthropic efforts off the court. Julius Erving introduced Wilkins to the waiting crowd and was on stage when the curtain fell revealing the new statue.
