As expected, the Atlanta Hawks have signed forward Austin Daye to a second 10-day contract. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported on Wednesday that it was likely that the Hawks would keep Daye around once his first deal expired.
The team made that official on Wednesday and Daye is expected to be with the team in Orlando for tonight's game. The Hawks signed Daye from the Austin Spurs of the NBA D-League. Daye began the season with the San Antonio Spurs but was released and then signed with the Austin Spurs of the NBA's Development League.
Atlanta gave him a call up to add depth to their front court when Mike Scott was lost to a toe injury. By NBA rule, teams are permitted to sign players to two 10-day contracts during the season. At the end of the second contract the team will have to either sign him for the remainder of the season or cut him loose.
