Atlanta Hawks jump into Top 10 of's Front Office rankings

The Atlanta Hawks jump from 17th to 8th in's 2015 NBA Front Office Rankings.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports released its annual front office rankings Tuesday and the Atlanta Hawks made a big leap over last year. Atlanta checks in at No. 8 in 2015 which is a nine place jump from last year's ranking of No. 17.

The Hawks came away with a 7.23 ranking on the 10-point scale. They rate just behind the Boston Celtics and slightly ahead of the Chicago Bulls. The San Antonio Spurs are once again the top team in the league by a wide margin according to the rankings.

While the Hawks emergence to the top team in the Eastern Conference has clearly played a part in the increasing confidence of the front office, its interesting given the absence of Danny Ferry who has been away on leave since before the season began.

Assistant General Manager Wes Wilcox and Mike Budenholzer along with Steve Koonin have done an excellent job of guiding the ship in Ferry's absence. The Hawks are the top team in the East and have successfully navigated away from this past summer's scandal that engulfed Ferry along with Bruce Levenson. They have done this while the team is up for sale and have passed with flying colors.

We still don't know what the future will hold. It is clear that Ferry's fate will be ultimately decided by new ownership but the dynamic he put in place along with Wilcox and Budenholzer has been proven to work.
