Mike Scott could return from toe injury earlier than expected

Mike Scott could be back in the Atlanta Hawks' lineup quicker than was first expected.

The Atlanta Hawks got good news in regards to injured forward Mike Scott on Friday. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore reports that Scott will miss only 2-4 weeks with a broken toe.

The original timeline called for Scott to miss 4-6 weeks. So far Pero Antic, Elton Brand and Mike Muscala have gotten the call in place of Scott. The team signed forward Austin Daye to a 10-day contract and he made his debut on Wednesday against the Warriors.

Scott was originally diagnosed with a broken left big toe but additional tests revealed that the injury is just a sprain. He also sought a second-opinion from an independent doctor. Scott is expected to be out of his walking boot early next week.

Scott has been an integral part of Atlanta's bench for the last two seasons. He has appeared in 62 games so far this season and is averaging 7.5 points per game while shooting a career-high 35 percent from three-point range.
