Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution initially reported that Payne was simply on the move, but moments later, he revealed additional details.
To sum up what I have: Hawks have traded Adreian Payne to T'Wolves for future first-round pick. More to come. #ATLHawks

Without a great deal of detail here, the Hawks could be opening a roster spot with this particular move. Payne has appeared in just three games (averaging 6.3 minutes per contest) as a rookie, and with Atlanta firmly in the championship discussion, the front office could be seeking flexibility with the roster.
Update:
Hawks pick from Timberwolves is from 2017-2020 protected 1-14. #ATLHawks

Additional details will follow, but with a move like this, both the return for Payne and any additional moves following the creation of a roster spot will be extremely important. Stay tuned.
