UPDATE #2: The Hawks have announced the trade sending Adreian Payne to Minnesota for a future first round pick.

UPDATE: Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports that the Hawks will receive a lottery-protected first round selection in the 2017 NBA Draft.

In a move that seemingly emerged from nowhere, the Atlanta Hawks have reportedly traded 2014 first round pick Adreian Payne.

Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution initially reported that Payne was simply on the move, but moments later, he revealed additional details.

Without a great deal of detail here, the Hawks could be opening a roster spot with this particular move. Payne has appeared in just three games (averaging 6.3 minutes per contest) as a rookie, and with Atlanta firmly in the championship discussion, the front office could be seeking flexibility with the roster.

Additional details will follow, but with a move like this, both the return for Payne and any additional moves following the creation of a roster spot will be extremely important. Stay tuned.
