Walter Tavares solid in Austin Spurs victory

Walter Tavares overcame early foul trouble to help the Austin Spurs to a win over the Oklahoma City Blue

Atlanta Hawks' second-round pick Walter Tavares continued his D-League assignment on Sunday helping the Austin Spurs to a come from behind 101-95 win over the Oklahoma City Blue.

Tavares was again saddled by foul trouble early picking up a pair of personals in the first two minutes of the game. This time however, he was able to settle down and had a big impact in the game finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds, three blocks in just 21 minutes of action. Tavares made 5-of-6 shots from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

Austin entered the fourth quarter trailing by seven but outscored Oklahoma City 35-22 over the final 12 minutes of the game.

Orlando Johnson led the way for the Spurs with 19 points while Ray McCallum added 18 points, four rebounds and five assists. Dez Wells led Oklahoma City with 18 points.

Tavares is likely to be recalled by the Hawks on Sunday since Austin doesn't play again until December 27. The Hawks wrap up a two-game road trip on Sunday in Orlando and are back at home for three games next week starting with Portland on Monday.
