Hawks also sending Lamar Patterson to D-League (Updated)

The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly sending Lamar Patterson to the D-League.

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will assign rookie shooting guard Lamar Patterson to the NBA Development League according to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore. Patterson will be assigned via the NBA's flexible assignment rule and his destination isn't known at this time. The Hawks assigned Walter Tavares to the Austin Spurs earlier this week and he will make his debut Friday night.

Patterson was a surprise addition to the Hawks' rotation at the start of the season but has lost playing time of late to Justin Holiday. He has appeared in seven games so far this season and is averaging 2.4 points on 31 percent shooting. Patterson has not seen any playing time in the Hawks last three games.

Atlanta has been one of the most aggressive teams in utilizing the D-League as an avenue to get players valuable court time. Vivlamore reports that Patterson's assignment will be a short one.

The Hawks have yet to officially announce the move.

Update

The Hawks have announced that Patterson has been assigned to the Austin Spurs.
