The Atlanta Hawks will assign rookie center Walter Tavares to the NBA D-League according to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore. Since the Hawks are without a D-League affiliate, where Tavares will be headed has yet to be determined.
The Hawks will send center Edy Tavares to the D-League for a stint. Team to be determined by league proces.

There are 11 teams without a D-League affiliate and they will utilize the flexibe assignment rule that was put in place last season when 13 teams shared the Fort Wayne Mad Ants as an affiliate. The Hawks utilized the flexible assignment rule to place former first round pick Adreian Payne with the Austin Spurs and John Jenkins with the Idaho Stampede.
Tavares has appeared in two games so far this season and has totaled two minutes of playing time. He has spent a large part of the season on the inactive list. A D-League assignment will allow him the opportunity to get some much needed court time to further his development.
The Hawks have yet to officially announce the move.
