As expected, the Atlanta Hawks will hold several of their regulars out of tonight's final preseason game in Detroit. The Hawks announced that Al Horford, Paul Millsap, Tiago Splitter and Kyle Korver did not make the trip to Detroit. Thabo Sefolosha did make the trip, but he is listed as doubtful.
This was expected given that Atlanta opens the regular season on Tuesday against these same Pistons. Mike Budenholzer treated Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies like a regular season game upping the minutes for his starters while shortening the rotation.
Friday's game will be the last opportunity for several players who are in competition for the team's final roster spot. Lamar Patterson appears to the frontrunner having received much more playing time than any of the other camp invites. The Hawks parted ways with Terran Petteway on Thursday cutting the roster down to 17 players. Petteway came into camp looking like Patterson's biggest competition but was slowed due to an ankle injury.
