John Jenkins ended his stint at the D-League Showcase with a big performance as he scored 28 points in a losing effort as the Idaho Stampede fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
Jenkins had one of his best days of the season connecting on 10-14 attempts including 4-6 from three-point range. He successfully bounced back from a tough performance in the Showcase opener when he finished with just two points in 17 minutes.
Shane Gibson knocked down seven three-pointers on his way to 23 points for the Stampede. Jerrelle Benimon added 18 in the loss. Andre Emmett led the Mad Ants with 27 points.
Jenkins' participation in the Showcase was up in the air originally due to a hamstring injury that he suffered in a loss to Oklahoma City. Jenkins missed two games and left the Stampede to return to Atlanta to have the injury looked at by the team. After being checked out, Jenkins rejoined Iowa in Santa Cruz prior to their Showcase opener on Saturday.
Jenkins is averaging 16.8 points on 48 percent shooting in six games with the Stampede this season. In 11 D-League contests overall he is averaging 18 points on 54 percent shooting.
Iowa won't play again until Friday and with Shelvin Mack hurting, it seems there would be an opportunity for the Hawks to recall Jenkins before Wednesday game against Indiana.
