Quick thoughts from Atlanta Hawks' media day

Here are some quick takeaways from today's media session with the Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta Hawks media day for the 2014-15 season just wrapped up and here are a few quick thoughts on what was a productive session.

Mike Budenholzer took the podium first and navigated his way through some difficult questions about the controversy that has engulfed GM Danny Ferry and the franchise this summer. Budenholzer repeatedly called the situation unfortunate but said that he and the players were trying move forward. He was very excited about his team that returns 12 players from last season's squad.

Budenholzer fielded a number of questions on his new dual role as the team's head coach and acting General Manager. He said that his role hasn't changed a lot due to the team's roster being pretty set heading into training camp and that he was already heavily involved in the decision making process. He also indicated that assistant GM Wes Wilcox would likely assume most of the day-to-day operations while he focused on being the team's head coach.

A number of players were asked if they would welcome back Ferry to the team. DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague were a couple that said they would and several declined to answer the questions saying that it wasn't their decision to make. All of them were supportive and seemed ready to get the focus back on playing basketball.

From a basketball standpoint, the team has been mostly together the entire month of September training and have built some momentum heading into camp. Al Horford looked good and reiterated that he intends to be ready to go on opening night.
