Perhaps a change of venue and schedule is what is needed to get the Dream back on track. Atlanta returns to Philips Arena on Tuesday after a three-game stand at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion for an afternoon matchup with the Connecticut Sun.
The Dream enter Tuesday riding a four-game losing streak and looking to get things turned around before hitting the road for five of their next six games. Despite the skid, Atlanta is still the only Eastern Conference team with a better than .500 record but their lead over second-place Washington is down to just three full games.
Things haven't been any better of late for the Sun who have lost three straight and 10 of their last 12 overall. At 10-16, Connecticut sits in last place in the East standings but are just one game behind the New York Liberty for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Atlanta's recent struggles can be linked to a sputtering offense and they need more efficient play from their leading scorer Angel McCoughtry. McCoughtry is averaging 16.3 points per game during the losing streak but is shooting just 35 percent from the field. She is 2-19 from three-point range over that span and has gotten to the free throw line a total of eight times in the last two games.
The Dream also need to get center Erika de Souza back on track as she has failed to score in double figures in each of her last five games. In Sunday's loss to the Mystics, De Souza was limited to just six points and seven rebounds but was just 2-4 from the field while playing 31 minutes. She has to get more touches while in position to score if the Dream want to be successful.
The biggest issue facing the Dream offensively right now is their inability to stretch the floor offensively with their three-point shooting. After an encouraging start, Atlanta is now dead last in the league in three-point percentage at just 29 percent. Teams have started to pack the paint as a result and players like McCoughtry and De Souza have suffered because of it.
