The Atlanta Hawks are off to an unspectacular 0-2 start to the 2014 Las Vegas Summer League, but fortunately, the team has the ability to rebound in a nice way against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday afternoon. Atlanta was much improved despite a double overtime loss to the NBA's D-League Select team on Sunday (which, of course, featured "sudden death"), and they'll look to build on that upward swing in the last of three "round robin" games.
It appears as if head coach Darvin Ham has settled in on a fairly solid rotation, with Casey Prather, Edy Taveras and either Edo Muric or Michael Bramos joining with the "core" of Dennis Schröder, Adreian Payne, Mike Muscala and Lamar Patterson. In addition, John Jenkins is expected to be active and in the lineup again on Tuesday, after sitting out Sunday with consideration for his still-healing back. With that, it will be somewhat interesting to see who Ham elects to go with in Summer League's version of "crunch time", if only to see where the coaching staff places their trust at this incredibly early stage.
On the Portland side, keep an eye on Thomas Robinson and Will Barton, as each has a great deal of NBA experience by Summer League terms, and the Hawks could have their hands full. Atlanta will be looking to avoid a basement seeding in the upcoming LVSL tournament, and with a win, they should be in better shape moving forward. Stay tuned.
