The AJC's Chris Vivlamore reports that the Atlanta Hawks will waive forward John Salmons on Thursday before his contract becomes fully guaranteed.

Nothing really new to report here as this move has been the expected result the second Danny Ferry shipped Lou Williams and Lucas Nogueira to Toronto for Salmons. Atlanta previously negotiated with Salmons to extend the deadline to July 10 which in theory gave Ferry and the Hawks extra time to explore trade options. Salmons is owed $7 million this season but only $1 million of his salary is guaranteed.

The free agency period continues to grind along slowly as the entire league is virtually frozen while awaiting LeBron James to make his decision. The signing period began officially at midnight and things should begin to progress heading into the weekend.

Update

A league source has confirmed to Peachtree Hoops that Salmons' deadline is at midnight on Thursday. So to recap. If he is not waived by midnight on Thursday the full $7 million left on his contract becomes guaranteed.
