SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell has released his final mock draft in advance of Thurday's draft and project international wing Dario Saric to the Atlanta Hawks with the No. 15 pick.
Saric won't be over to the NBA for at least two years, but his versatile game and advanced basketball IQ might be too much to pass up at this point in the first round. Remember, the Hawks drafted two international players (Dennis Schroeder and Lucas Nogueira) in round one last year.
Saric is a name that we have been well aware of for the last two seasons. Their were rumblings last season that Atlanta had him high on their board before he pulled out of the draft. He had been projected as a mid to late lottery pick before agreeing to a deal in Turkey that will essentially prevent him from coming to the NBA for two seasons.
Some pundits see Saric as a gamble and think that the Hawks will opt to take a player that can help right away but Danny Ferry has always done things with an eye on the future. Unless he thinks he has a shot at bringing an impact free agent like LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony to Atlanta this summer I don't see him altering his draft approach.
Even with a potential two-year wait, Saric is too good a value at No. 15 to pass up.
NBADraft.net reports that Ferry and the Hawks have a promise in place with Saric and that Atlanta was the only team he came over and worked out for.
