According to Marc Stein, expect the Hawks to heavily pursue the former Georgetown Hoya this summer.

Danny Ferry had a busy offseason in 2013 that was highlighted by the bargain Paul Millsap deal. Well, Ferry may try and work his magic again this summer for another efficient forward in Greg Monroe who is now a restricted free agent.

According to ESPN NBA Insider Marc Stein:

"There have been some recent rumbles on the personnel grapevine that the Hawks will lob themselves into the bidding for Detroit Pistons restricted free agent Greg Monroe.

The close ties between Monroe's agent, David Falk, and Falk's former star client Ferry make such rumbles inevitable.

Whether that chatter morphs into full-fledged courtship remains to be seen."

I've always been a big fan of Monroe's game, but I'm not sure how well he'd fit in Atlanta's scheme. Perhaps the Atlanta Hawks front office sees Monroe has an insurance policy if Millsap and/or Al Horford fall victim to the injury bug next season.

Or Ferry is thinking bigger picture and sees Monroe as Millsap's long-term replacement next to Horford if the Hawks aren't able to re-sign Millsap next summer.

Either way, this is definitely something to monitor this summer as the Hawks continue to build for the future.
