2014 WNBA: East unbeatens clash as Atlanta faces Chicago

The Atlanta Dream look to run their record to 3-0 on the season when they take on the undefeated Chicago Sky Saturday night.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Eastern Conference's remaining unbeaten teams square off on Saturday as the 2-0 Atlanta Dream travel to Chicago to take on the 3-0 Sky. Atlanta opened the season with a tough home victory over San Antonio and got a late three-pointer from Angel McCoughtry to win in Indiana. Chicago has wins over Indiana, New York and most recently Connecticut.

Atlanta is coming off of a week off having not played since last Saturday. The timing couldn't have been more perfect for the Dream as McCoughtry was already slowed by a leg injury after a long season overseas and a very short training camp. McCoughtry came off the bench in the win over the Fever and is averaging 24 points on 59 percent shooting in the young season. Her potential matchup with Chicago's Elena Delle Donne Saturday night will be key for both teams.

Delle Donne has enjoyed an equally strong start to the season averaging 22 points and 4.7 rebounds in the early going. She finished with 21 points in Wednesday's 68-58 win over Connecticut.

Another intriguing matchup will be Atlanta's guards, specifically Jasmine Thomas and rookie Shoni Schimmel against Chicago's Courtney Vandersloot. Schimmel has burst onto the scene for the Dream averaging 12 points and 10.5 assists off the bench over the first two games. Thomas has started both games for MIchael Cooper but has given way early to Schimmel who has seen the bulk of the playing time at crunch time. Vandersloot is off to a great start averaging 13 points and 6.7 assists.

Saturday's game will also mark the return of Swin Cash who was acquired in trade from the Sky late in training camp. Cash played 68 games with Chicago over the last two seasons and averaged 9.3 points per game last season. She will be looking to get her Atlanta career on track after a couple of tough games to start the season.
